The SKAN Factor

The SKAN Factor is a comprehensive sustainability rating system, determining a company’s value through its commitment to environmental and social responsibility. The rating system analyzes risks and opportunities from a sustainability platform, including an assessment of established or proposed environmental, social and cultural programs.

What does it mean to be truly Sustainable?  How do we differentiate one company from the next in terms of sustainability?  Is sustainability a set of solar panels or is it part of a companies fabric?  These questions are being asked more and more, by consumers, investors, businesses, NGOs and now the Government alike (read: Obama!).

The SKAN Factor Rating System will be the new standard in assessing the true SUSTAINABILITY of businesses globally!

The SKAN Factor provides a comprehensive value assessment of each target company built strictly on the target’s social and environmental performance and their governance (ESG). This assessment then acts as an overlay to traditional financial analysis (and the financial ratings of Morningstar, S&P, FTSE, for example), as more and more investors and consumers look to corporate citizenry as a component of future value. As the last 24-36 months have revealed, the bottom line is increasingly influenced by the deployment of green and sustainable practices. Companies such as Herman Miller (NASDAQ:MLHR), KRAFT (NYSE:KFT), Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT), Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ), IBM (NYSE:IBM), United Technologies (NYSE:UTX), Steelcase (NYSE:SCS) and dozens of others, have all claimed that sustainability has played a role in company performance, whether through cost cutting efficiencies, improved NGO and government relations and/or as a sales driver. According, The SKAN Factor rating provides the most comprehensive indicator that reflects the true value of a company as opposed to strictly looking at more traditional financial performance, culture and output.

We need to ask tougher questions about the people and businesses we do business with, no matter where we fit into commerce or investments.  We need clarity, knowledge and transparency.  We need to be empowered as we attempt to emerge from both the economic as well as environmental crisis.  The SKAN Factor Rating System is the tool that will help to assess the companies that are getting us there.

THE SKAN FACTOR IS DUE TO LAUNCH IN 1Q 2009.
